That is because it is illegal under federal law for a physician to dispense schedule II drugs. Their are a few exceptions to the rule.

Not quite, Morphine and Ritalin are two schedule II drugs that physicians can prescribe....so there are Schedule II drugs that physicians are fully licensed to presecribe and more than a few.

I was curious about Rider's post but then I relized even though he used the word "dispense" my mind thought "perscribe". I am not sure if that matters but I figured Rider was saying there were different rules for dispensing than for prescribing.

California Health and Safety Code Section 11190

(a) Every practitioner, other than a pharmacist, who
prescribes or administers a controlled substance classified in
Schedule II shall make a record that, as to the transaction, shows
all of the following....

practioner being physicians and surgeons.
