Psychiatry or Psychology (California)

Postby Drjewel on Wed Apr 16, 2014 11:35 am

As a psychologist QME I am curious when and why attorneys select a psychiatrist over a psychologist. Same injury, 2 significantly different trainings...

What is the thinking about a psychiatrist over a psychologist? :ugeek:

Not much of a reason. Used to be with FMC, the psychiatrist might be in a better position to comment on the medications?

I have been told, by several applicant and defense attorneys, that, in general, psychologist QMEs are more likely to find more permanent psyche disability than psychiatrist QMEs.
Not saying that that is true and I'm certainly not aware of any statistics to that effect; but, it does seem to be a commonly held belief.

A similar generalization has been made re: physical medicine and rehab. QMEs (more physical PD) vs. orthopedic QMEs. I am certainly aware of exceptions to the above; but, there you go.
