The dirty on spinal fusions (California)

Postby 4anewusers on Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:23 am

Stakeholders who benefit financial from spinal fusions are the ones submitting clinical trial data that they do themselves, deciding what is included, the endpoints in the trial etc and why it should be scrutinized.

It is too bad in the California workers compensation system alternative treatments are often times denied or limited due to caps. This can seal the fate for patients who believe they have no alternatives to a fusion or who are told that the fusion will "fix" them. Fusions do work in some cases, but how many cases do you see that it is either short term or results in increased disability? What percentage of injured workers are you seeing who are worse after a fusion?

I would like to see patients provided with more information on fusions, if not from their doctor then from their wc insurance carrier to ensure they have full informed consent. ... 07fbfb519d
