5 work injuries cost the LAPD $12,000,000 (California)

A jury verdict was recently reported which indicates that five LAPD recruits were awarded amounts in excess of $2,000,000 each, for the failure of the department to temporarily accommodate them following work injuries.
Rather than accommodate, it appears each of the 5 were fired or quit rather than risk being fired.
While we can anticipate the LAPD will appeal, situations like these show the risk to employers in failing to properly address the FEHA aspects of work injury situations, which seems like it could become far more prevalent based on L.C 4658.7 and the process involved with the new doctors RTW and Voucher report which must be provided to the employer for accommodation efforts.
