Thugs basically took money from farmers and injured workers and gave it to well connected billionaires. But since they virtue signaled good intentions we let it pass.
It's one thing if the players cheat because the refs can correct them, it's whole different matter if the refs cheat as a matter of habit.
It's the same principle that Alexander Pope talked about criticism...bad criticism is worse than bad art because good art will bury bad art if criticism is fair. Bad government is the same way...bad industries will thrive and honest commerce will never happen.
